Elswick Colliery

Miscellaneous Notes and Incidents

A stoneman lighted three gelignite shots at once and on returning to the face the third exploded and he was struck by stones from it. (Gelignite.)

A shifter who was supposed to be at work several hundred yards away, came out of an airway and went into a gateway where a gelignite shot had just been lighted, He was struck by stones. (Gelignite.)
