Dinnington Colliery

Miscellaneous Notes and Incidents

On 17th January, 1951, three persons were injured by an explosion of firedamp in the Beaumont Seam at Dinnington Colliery. The explosion occurred in a discontinued district, from which material was being salvage shortly after one of the men concerned had gone from the intake haulage road into the return airway. In the course of the investigation which followed, two cigarettes were found in a haversack in a stenton between the two roads and. a short distance away from what appeared to be the seat of the explosion, there were found the stub of a cigarette and a spent match, together with the detached headpiece of a cap lamp belonging to one of the men.
