Awards for Gallantry

Here we present details of some of the awards for gallantry etc. given to those employed in the mining industry. Where possible we include the citation given when the award was granted — click on the name to see the information we have for that individual.

(See also our pages on The Order of Industrial Heroism)

Some background information on the awards:

  • 17 Oct 1907 — Edward VII — initial royal warrant to create a new medal
  • 03 Dec 1909 — Edward VII — further royal warrant to extend the scope
  • 28 Aug 1917 — George V — further royal warrant

In collecting the information on the awards for the area which this site covers we have found awards for individuals in other areas of the county, we have also extracted these details. A name index for these is found here.
