Company Notes

Colliery Winding-Up

A proposal to place the company in voluntary liquidation is mentioned in a directors’ circular to shareholders of Lambton, Hetton, and Joicey Collieries, Limited, of Newcastle on Tyne.

The sum of £1,222,000 was awarded the company under the apportionment of the Durham district global sum of £13,005,000, and the directors state that the Ministry of Fuel are willing to pay 90 per cent. of the award subject to deduction of the amounts already paid in partial compensation for coal industry assets. The amount so far received in this respect is £380,000 and the remainder yet to come is £720,000.

Treasury stock in satisfaction of this sum, which is equivalent to 8s. per 5s. Ordinary stock unit, will be received in December next. The directors add they have reason to believe that the process of determining the value of the various ancillary assets will be speeded up shortly and it is hoped that a settlement will be reached some time next year.
