1924

Company Notes

Registered – August 6, 1885, to acquire the Harton, St. Hilda, and Boldon Collieries, situate in the parishes of Jarrow, Whitburn, Westoe and Boldon, Durham, and formerly worked by the Harton Coal Co. In 1891 the company acquired the adjoining property of the Whitburn Coal Co., Ltd., for £136,300, in fully-paid £20 shares. The company also owns the Marsden Limestone Quarries, Marsden Estates, the South Shields, Marsden and Whitburn Colliery Railway, and shipping staithes on the River Tyne.

Capital – £1,000,000, in shares of £1 each; 963,250 shares are issued and fully paid. The capital, originally £499,200 in shares of £800, was increased to £635,500 in 1891 and the shares sub-divided into £20 each. During 1914, the capital was increased to present amount and the shares again sub-divided.

Debentures – Authorised £600,000 ; issued £500,000 ; created December, 1923.
