1924

Company Notes

Registered – May 6, 1872, and owns the Bearpark Brancepeth colliery, situate about 2½ miles west of the city of Durham. The extent of the property included on the lease is over 2,000 acres. Coke ovens, coal washer and chemical plant have been installed.

Capital – £283,500, in shares of £1 each ; all the shares are issued and fully paid. The capital was increased from £105,000 to £210,000, in £750 shares, in 1875 ; in August, 1903, the shares were sub-divided, and during July, 1919, the capital was increased to present amount and a bonus (from reserve) of 50 per cent. declared, holders of full-paid shares receiving one new fully-paid share for every two held, and holders of 105,000 shares with 16s. paid one new share for every five held, together with a payment of 4s. per partly-paid share.

Recent Dividends – 1911, 12½ per cent.; 1912, 27½ per cent.; 1913, 45 per cent.; 1914, 20 per cent.; 1915, 30 per cent.; 1916, 23¼ per cent. (free of tax); 1917, 22½ per cent. (free of tax); 1918, 21¾ per cent. (free of tax); 1919, 26 per cent. (free of tax) and 50 per cent. bonus out of reserve as above ; 1920, 30 per cent. (free of tax); 1921, 5 per cent. (free of tax) ; 1922, 10 per cent. (free of tax); 1923, 5 per cent. May 10, 6 per cent. August 10, 6 per cent. November 10 (free of tax).

Accounts – For year ended December 31, 1922, submitted in Middlesbrough March 19,1923, showed £5,289 carried forward after paying £28,350 dividends, writing off £10,000 depreciation and transferring £4,500 to reserve. Reserve fund £60,000.
