Names of those killed at this colliery

Please note that this collection of names is by no means complete!

Bewsher, Alfred, 22 Apr 1912, aged 25, Miner, he was casting ore down a stope, when about 7 cwt. of roof ore slipped from between the spiles and caught him while in a stooping position; the place was only 5 feet high, and was apparently safely timbered

Cameron, William Moffat, 11 Mar 1908, aged 31, Miner, the roof of a close-timbered robbery working suddenly collapsed

Dixon, George, 17 Jan 1900, aged 32, Miner, An exceedingly simple accident. Sprained himself whilst lifting an empty bogie; sustained internal injury and died a week afterwards. [Inspection made & inquest attended]

Holmes, George Walton, 31 Jul 1902, aged 36, Miner, deceased thought that the candle, which he had lit and placed under the fuse, had gone out; he was returning to relight it when the shot exploded ; it was thought at the time that he was comparatively little worse, but he died three hours afterwards

Little, David, 13 May 1910, aged 62, Overman, Deceased was supervising the erection of a prop under a roof about 12 ft. high, when a mass of stone and ore, weighing about 7 cwt., fell from another part of the roof and caught him

McCartan, Matthew, 02 Apr 1903, aged 23, Miners Labourer, Deceased was found within a few yards of the shaft in a kneeling position and quite dead. Traces of blood were discernible to a point about 150 yards away, where he had left a loaded bogie which he had brought out from a hurry about 100 yards further inbye, and which point he had left two hours before he was found. There were no marks on his body, and nothing to suggest an accident was observed. He had apparently burst a blood vessel and bled from the nose or mouth. No inquest was held.

Pickering, James, 25 Oct 1900, aged 48, Miner, Deceased had been sent by the overman to set some timber on a roadway, and whilst he was engaged at this work, about half a ton of ore — part of the ground he was about to timber up — suddenly fell on him. [Inspection made & inquest attended]

Rothery, Joseph, 11 Feb 1919, aged 34

Walker, John, 31 Jan 1910, aged 29, Miner, Deceased and his mates were preparing to put in timber when a mass of roof, 8 ft. square and 16 ins, thick, suddenly fell and caught Walker
