| | | | | | | Ashburner, Thomas K., 17 Jul 1902, aged 25, Miner, during the ascent of the loaded kibble in a sinking shaft, Ashburner was struck by a stone supposed to have fallen from the kibble ; this shaft is exceptionally well protected; folding doors are placed on the pit top, and both ends of the pit are covered over, leaving only the winding shaft in the middle open, where no one ought to be during the ascent of the loaded kibble |
| | | | | | | Beck, James, 21 Jan 1889, Miner, fall of stone from roof, the piece which fell came from between two slips |
| | | | | | | Crump, William, 12 Sep 1889, aged 33, Miner, the deceased was supposed to have fallen from No. 4 eye of the shaft to the bottom whilst engaged taking tools off the cage |
| | | | | | | Roastrane, Henry, 09 Feb 1893, aged 42, died suddenly in the pit from heart disease |
| | | | | | | Sleeman, Philip, 17 Feb 1881, aged 20, Miner, pump bucket fell down set of pumps and caused set to fall away, knocking the deceased men off a scaffold in the shaft [More information ...] |
| | | | | | | Strain, John, 19 Aug 1898, aged 54, Shaftman, He was descending a staple pit when the winding rope broke. The rope was of steel wire, flat, 3½" by 5/8", and although it had been in use nearly four years, had done very little work. It was part of Strain's duty to examine this rope daily, and to oil it every five or six weeks, but he had never reported it as defective, nor made any complaint concerning it. A subsequent examination showed that it was in a very bad condition, and it is difficult to understand how deceased — who was regarded as a trusted and competent workman — could have failed to observe the broken wires when applying oil in the ordinary way [Inspection made & inquest attended] |
| | | | | | | Williams, Thomas, 17 Feb 1881, aged 20, Miner, pump bucket fell down set of pumps and caused set to fall away, knocking the deceased men off a scaffold in the shaft [More information ...] |
