Birch, Edward, 07 May 1880, aged 13, Hewer, crushed by cage in shaft

      

Heron, John, 03 Oct 1898, aged 14, Driver, He was driving a pony with one empty tub in-bye, followed by another driver about three yards behind. In turning round to speak to the other driver, his head was crushed between the tub and a prop [Inquest attended]

      

Hockaday, John, 19 Jul 1911, (accident: 28 Sep 1910), aged 57, Hewer, slipped whilst throwing coal

     

Hogarth, Thomas W., 18 Jun 1930, aged 15, Pony Driver, while working in the Victoria Seam he was run over by a set of tubs; he was found lying dead under the tubs; death was due to suffocation

      

Hogg, James, 02 Sep 1893, 10:15 a.m., 1st hour of shift, aged 32, Sinker, Deceased and others were engaged shooting stone down at shaft bottom, preparing for an archway. A shot had been fired, and soon after some stone, shaken by the shot, fell and crushed deceased. The men evidently had not sufficient timber set, but it was said that some had been blown out by the shot, and they had not had time to replace it [Inspection made]

     

Johnson, Thomas, 28 Oct 1903, (accident: 03 Oct 1903), aged 29, Hewer, Deceased worked with another hewer in a stall 14 yards wide in the Brockwell seam when the top coal fell for a length of 9 yards and about 1 yard deep, canting four props set under it and a stay set against it. The seam here consists of Top coal 2 feet 4 inches, Band 1 foot 7 inches, and Bottom coal 2 feet., Buried: St. Andrew's Churchyard, Stanley

      

Joyce, Martin, 08 Aug 1891, 12:20 a.m., 6th hour of shift, aged 22, Sinker, deceased and another man were lighting shots in a sinking hole, and the former having some difficulty in getting one of his shots lighted, persisted in waiting and trying to light it up (although called on by his mate to leave it) when three of the shots exploded, the stones striking and killing him; he mate had a miraculous escape [Inspection made & Inquest attended]

      

Nelson, John Henry, 11 Feb 1913, aged 33, Hewer [More information ...]

     

Pattison, William Hedley, 03 Dec 1894, 10:20 a.m., 5th hour of shift, aged 20, Putter, Fall of stone. The roof is good, and as a rule little timber is required. The stone fell at the junction of two roads [Inspection made & inquest attended], Buried: Harelaw Cemetery (old)

      

Pemberton, Thomas, 04 Jan 1901, aged 17, Putter, He was getting on to the limbers when the pony moved away, causing his bead to come in contact with the roof, and he fell, and was crushed between the side of the road and tub wheels [Inquest attended]

      

Robinson, William Elkin, 09 May 1908, aged 36, Hewer, hand injured by fall of stone at working face and died under chloroform while it was being operated on

     

Spark, William John jnr., 06 Dec 1912, aged 18, Pony Putter, was caught by the cage at the bottom of a drop staple, when either attempting to pass underneath, or slipped and fell as the cage came down, Buried: St. Andrew's Churchyard, Stanley

      

Statt, John, 16 Jun 1907, (accident: 28 May 1907), aged 49, Screener [More information ...]

      

Swinburn, William, 09 Apr 1880, aged 13, Wailer, crushed by trucks

      

Thompson, William Donkin, 06 Nov 1911, aged 42, Stoneman, killed by a fall of stone
