Names of those killed at this colliery

Please note that this collection of names is by no means complete!

Carr, Thomas, 15 Sep 1947, aged 44, Buried: St. Michael & All Angels, Newburn

Charlton, James, 13 Jun 1913, aged 37, Hewer, deceased was working near the gate end in a longwall place, when a fall of stone came away from two nearly parallel slips, 2 feet to 4 feet wide, between the edge of the canch and the coal face

Cockburn, George, 01 Sep 1913, aged 20, Putter, whilst deceased was attaching his pony to a full tub, a hewer was attempting to set a prop which had been knocked out from underneath the face plank by an overcharged shot, when a stone about 9 feet wide, 7 feet long, and 15 inches thick, fell on to deceased; when deceased was released, he had his left arm round a prop, which possibly had been loosened by the flying coal from the shot and came out when he touched it in getting past the tub or in helping the pony to start

Miller, Joseph, 12 Jan 1914, aged 49, Stoneman, Deceased was engaged getting down a canch in a drift. The master shifter had told him to get down a "side waver" because it was unsafe. Deceased tried to do so with a wedge, and failed. He afterwards went underneath to knock a prop out further inbye, when the stone fell and killed him. Deceased should have set a prop temporarily.

Thompson, A. E., 1919, [approximate date]
