Description

Coal was commenced to be got in this township [Thrislington] in 1869, when the Thrislington Colliery was sunk, which is now worked by the company of that name. At present the "Harvey" seam is the only one wrought, and this is met at a depth of 103 fathoms, four feet thick. The "Lowmain" seam, two feet six inches ; the "Hutton," one foot ten inches ; and the "Brockwell" also exist here. The output of this pit amounts to about 450 tons per day, one fourth being made into coke, giving employment in all to 450 men and boys.
