Names of those killed at this colliery

Please note that this collection of names is by no means complete!

Buckingham, Arthur William, 28 Aug 1911, aged 15, Driver, he was coining out with a set of full tubs, and was turning a corner to come into the landing when the horse "crossed over", deceased who was walking at the side ran to the horse's head to lead him back to the centre of the road, but the horse trod on his foot and it is supposed that in his efforts to free himself he fell under the tubs; the horse had been idle for some days and was probably more restive than usual; deceased died the same afternoon as a result of shock from haemorrhage

Cubitt, William, 10 Nov 1904, aged 25, Filler, while filling a tub with ironstone and shale in the face of a working place, a piece of dogger fell from the roof and killed him

Marley, Henry, 16 Nov 1917, aged 44, Ironstone Miner, accidentally killed by the premature explosion of a shot fired by him; address: 92 Margrove Park, Skelton (Inquest: 17 Nov 1917 adjourned to 19 Nov 1917)

Pearson, Harry, 22 Dec 1909, aged 18, Filler, He, with his mate, was filling in a place where the roof broke down two baulks set to support it. The baulks were 3 feet 8 inches apart and 5 feet from the face. The place was 14 feet wide. It is probable that the shots fired in the place had shaken the dogger roof and had caused it to settle down suddenly and displace the baulks

Sellars, Edward, 16 May 1903, aged 25, Filler, he had lighted a powder shot and thinking the squib had missed returned to the face when the shot exploded and killed him [More information ...]

Smith, Walter, 29 Jan 1873, aged 19, Waiter On, fell down pit

Teasdale, Job, 01 Jan 1901, (accident: 27 Dec 1900), aged 65, Labourer, died on January 1st from injuries received by a horse which he was leading kicking him on the 27th December, Buried: Skelton Cemetery
