Coulson, John (jnr.), 11 Dec 1877, (accident: 08 Dec 1877), aged 20, Driver, riding on a full set his head came into contact with the roof or sides

Liddle, George, 02 Jan 1903, aged 67, Brickmaker, Deceased was employed at brickworks owned by the Colliery Co. and was on his way along a tramway to work, having overslept himself. He got on to a set of loaded tubs being drawn by a rope from the mine's mouth to the screens. The rope is knocked off before the tubs arrive at the stopping place, but on this occasion the knock-off failed to act and the tubs went further than usual and deceased was caught at the knock-off [fatality reported during the year but not classified as a colliery accident]

Pattison, Robert Thomas, 15 Jun 1914, aged 38, Hewer, Deceased was killed by a fall of roof at the coal face. The roof was badly cut up by slips, and the stone fell from between two of these. Deceased was engaged at the time in setting a prop under the stone which fell. This should have been done before. A shot fired shortly before probably loosened the stone.

Spottiswood, Thomas Henry, 27 Nov 1913, aged 22, Putter, during the overlap of the lads' shifts (three hours) the deceased, within two other lads, was hewing coal in a wide bord, 12 yards in width, in a seam 2 feet thick in the limestone series, having a roof of sandy limestone usually of a remarkably good character, when a stone, 9 feet long, 4 feet 6 inches wide, tapering to a point at the other end and 12 inches thick, came away at a slip close to the face; one prop had been set at the thick end of the stone, which was canted out; the presence of a slip was not suspected

      

Thackray, John, 08 May 1899, aged 43, Engineer, While foolishly stepping over the connecting rod of a pumping engine in motion, he was tripped up by the rod, and fell underneath it [Inspection made]

      

Waugh, William, 25 Aug 1902, aged 22, Hewer, deceased was taking off side coal in a landing in the Little Limestone Coal in order that the road might be improved, when a large stone fell away and crushed him ; the place had been previously examined by the manager and the deputy and considered safe ; there was no slip, but some props which had been set at the edge of the stone were canted out
