Armstrong, R., 25 Aug 1931, aged 16, Haulage Lad, caught by tubs

      

Armstrong, William, 1897, aged 46, Hewer, died in the pit from syncope accelerated by exertion after a hearty meal [fatality reported during the year but not classified as a colliery accident]

      

Bell, John, 09 May 1895, aged 62, Shifter, died suddenly in the pit from failure of the heart's action [fatality reported during the year but not classified as a colliery accident]

      

Brumfitt, James, 13 Dec 1901, aged 30, Mechanic, The deceased was in the act of getting into the cage when it was lifted and he was crushed between the cage and buntons. The accident apparently arose through a mistake in the signals on the part of the engineman and banksman [Inspection made & inquest attended]

Dodds, John, 06 Jun 1908, aged 32, Hewer, Ignition of a small quantity of fire-damp by the flame of a safety lamp. There appeared some probability that the lamp had been opened

Harvey, Bernard, 03 Apr 1903, aged 58, Hewer, About ½-hour after deceased had started work in a headways, 9 feet wide, in the Brockwell seam, a large stone like a "caldron arse," and with a glassy parting on its upper surface, fell from the roof close to the face upon him, canting out two props which had been placed under it. The place had been properly inspected, and loose timber was near at hand. Deceased was considered a very careful man. The Local Inspectors reported they were of opinion that "it has been a pure accident."

Thompson, Joseph, 04 Feb 1898, (accident: 03 Feb 1898), aged 17, Screener, Deceased was replacing a full truck by an empty one, and instead of passing outside one of the screen uprights, attempted to go between it and the moving waggon, when he was crushed and received internal injuries from which he died on the following day [Inspection made]
