Baker, William, 28 Dec 1905, (accident: 21 Dec 1905), aged 50, Hewer, Deceased was filling a tub in the Blake or Main Coal seam in a longwall place when a stone 9 feet long and 3 feet wide and 9 inches at the thickest part fell away between the timber and the face, relieved by a jack. The deputy had been in the place about 4 hours before the accident and had set 4 props

Bond, Alexander, 26 Dec 1902, (accident: 29 Aug 1901), aged 21, Putter and Hewer, died 26th December, 1902 (more than a year after the accident), no inquest held, fall of top stone

      

Briarton, Charles, 02 May 1898, aged 16, Endless Rope Boy, The deceased was caught by tubs on an inclined endless rope plane. It is impossible to say how the accident occurred, but he had evidently left his proper place [Inspection made & inquest attended]

      

Brown, James, 10 Apr 1885, aged 59, Deputy, caught by empty set on engine plane

      

Brown, Joseph, 15 Dec 1893, 2:30 p.m., 6th hour of shift, aged 47, Hewer, Whilst at work a small piece of stone fell and injured his knee, and being a weakly man, and the wound having been neglected, blood poisoning set in, from which he died [Inquest attended]

Coates, J. Taylor, 01 Apr 1897, aged 32, Stoneman, The deceased and his marrow were working in the same gateway quite close together. They had fired a shot, and after examining the place began ridding the stone. The deceased knocked a "breaking off" prop out to make room for some packing, and it would appear that he had been reaching for it when the stone, which it had supported, fell and crushed him [Inspection made & inquest attended]

Heslop, Thomas, 13 Jan 1891, 10:00 a.m., 1st hour of shift, aged 41, Hewer, when the men were riding in the tubs to their work one of the couplings broke and the tubs ran amain; Heslop jumped out and was so severely injured that he died; the other men remained in the tubs and escaped [Inquest attended]

      

Holland, Robert, 09 Apr 1899, (accident: 08 Apr 1899), aged 32, Hewer, He was knocked down at 9.30 p.m. on Saturday 8th April, by a locomotive on the Cramlington waggon-way, and received such injuries that he succumbed on the following day. It is not surprising to hear of such accidents when the waggon-ways are practically public footpaths [fatality reported during the year but not classified as a colliery accident]

James, James Brown, 27 Jul 1896, aged 13, Driver, Deceased was driving down a slight dip, and it is supposed the pony crossed out from between the rails with the result that some props were knocked out and a fall of stone occurred [Inspection made & inquest attended]

      

Keenan, John, 03 Oct 1900, aged 46, Hewer, The deceased was hewing, when some stone which was slightly overhanging the coal fell away at a slip. The deputy and deceased examined the stone shortly before the accident and considered it sufficiently timbered, as it was secured by two props and a headtree, but these were canted out. [Inspection made & inquest attended]

McGuinnes, Richard, 28 Apr 1902, aged 24, Hewer, occurred in "broken" workings in the Blake seam, which is about 6 feet thick, with a stone band 16 inches thick in the centre of the seam ; the deceased was kirving in the band when the top coal fell on him ; sprags should have been set ; the deputy was present when the accident happened

Northcote, Thomas, 16 Aug 1890, 4:30 p.m., 2nd hour of shift, aged 46, Wasteman, found dead under a tub full of bricks

      

Northcote, William, 01 Feb 1912, aged 17, Assistant Onsetter, the cage was lowered as Northcote was pushing a tub out of the bottom deck; the evidence as to whether or no a signal had been given was conflicting

      

Nutter, Thomas, 10 Dec 1883, aged 50, Hewer, fall of band stone

      

Pagan, John, 18 May 1904, (accident: 29 Mar 1901), aged 44, Stoneman, Deceased was injured in the Yard seam on the 29th March, 1901, while engaged putting in a pack wall or building in longwall workings, using stone that had been shot down. The roof was not very good, but as the stone shot down was in the way of setting timber he delayed supporting it, and was caught by a stone and his spine injured. He was never able to work again, and was first taken to the infirmary in Newcastle and then to the workhouse, where he died. An inquest was held

Pearson, Ellis, 17 Jan 1893, (accident: 28 Nov 1892, 1:00 p.m., 6th hour of shift), aged 16, Pony Putter, It appears that the boy was driving two tubs down a slight incline, when the pony stumbled and ran against the props, knocking two out, which caused a fall of stone and injuries to Pearson. Died 17th January 1893 [Inquest attended]
