Names of those killed at this colliery

Please note that this collection of names is by no means complete!

Austin, Terence, 25 Jan 1913, aged 19, Putter, deceased after taking a tub to the face told the hewer that his pony had very nearly killed him; he then became unconscious and died the same day from a fractured spine; the roads were in good working order, and the cause of the accident unknown

Reed, Thomas, 13 Jun 1914, aged 30, Screener, deceased was standing for the purpose of signalling on the inside of a curve on an occasionally used siding worked by a stationary engine and rope to which a set of railway wagons was attached; he was close to one of three large "drum" sheaves used to bind the rope on the curve, but the rope was off the middle one; on starting the load up the hill the rope carried away the frame work of the sheave, and violently knocked the deceased over; the post of the framework of the sheave had been placed only 3½ feet down into "made" ground
