| | | | | | | Ainsworth, John, 14 Oct 1880, aged 15, Ore Picker, run over by a waggon |
| | | | | | | Askew, William, 03 Sep 1897, (accident: 01 Sep 1897), aged 52, Miner, A very simple accident. The drift was in soft ore, about 7 feet high by 8 feet wide, properly timbered and in good condition, he was working down some ore in the roof, subsequent to blasting, when a part of it, about the size of a man's head, fell and struck the end of his pick, driving the shaft against his abdomen. He died on the 3rd September [Inspection made & inquest attended] |
| | | | | | | Blackhurst, Richard Arthur, 22 Nov 1889, aged 21, Locomotive Stoker, run over by waggons on railway sidings, the deceased slipped off buffer in front of a waggon and was run over |
| | | | | | | Covil, William, 10 Jun 1878, aged 38, Miner, killed by a fall of roof |
| | | | | | | Dawson, James, 30 Nov 1883, aged 26, Miner, fall of clay |
| | | | | | | Fisher, Nicholas, 18 Apr 1913, aged 60, Miner, deceased's working place was a small "robbery," 7 feet high, and only 4 feet wide; the place was apparently well timbered, but a big slice of clay slipped away from a sandy parting, previously unsuspected, at a point 6 feet from the face, and displaced two sets of timber; deceased was caught as he was trying to escape; as it happened he would have been safe had he remained at the face |
| | | | | | | Gardiner, James, 13 Sep 1901, aged 41, Miner, A hole 2 feet deep, charged with one dynamite cartridge had missed fire, and on the top of this charge a half cartridge was subsequently inserted and fired. The blasting regulations in force at this mine provide that in cases of miss-fire, after waiting not less than 30 minutes a full cartridge must be inserted on the top of the original charge. When the half cartridge exploded the men thought that it had achieved its object by detonating the original charge. They do not, however, appear to have made any particular examination, and a few hours afterwards, whilst they were working out the shattered ore with a pick, the explosion occurred [Inspection made & inquest attended] |
| | | | | | | Goldsworthy, Alfred, 21 Nov 1902, (accident: 12 Nov 1902), aged 26, Miner, the roof consisted of old wood, intermixed with stiff clay; a kind of working place where accidents from falls rarely happen ; a headtree was being put in, when a portion of the roof fell and struck Goldsworthy, inflicting internal injuries, to which he succumbed about a week afterwards |
| | | | | | | Harrison, John, 19 Jan 1899, aged 49, Miner, Accident occurred in a vein working. A middling of ore about two feet thick had been left to form the roof. This middling appears to have been gradually thinned, until it collapsed, bringing with it a quantity of timber and debris left from working previous heights [Inspection made & inquest attended] |
| | | | | | | Hart, Alexander, 24 Dec 1897, aged 28, Miner, The working was in soft ore about 5 feet high, and was timbered close up to the forehead, the roof consisting of old timber and rubbish left from working previous heights. Notwithstanding these conditions, however, the place suddenly collapsed, burying deceased completely, and it was not until the lapse of six or seven hours that his body was recovered. Quite an unusual kind of accident in this class of ground [Inspection made & inquest attended] |

| | | | | | | Horner, William, 12 Dec 1898, aged 24, Labourer, Horner was berthing waggons, and had improperly got a fellow workman to let down a truck from the siding. In consequence of the latter's inability to apply the brake, the waggon collided against others. between which Horner was standing. The lever of the brake was not in good working order, but if deceased had attended to his own work the accident would not have happened [Inspection made & inquest attended] |

| | | | | | | Martin, William, 07 Oct 1895, 7:30 a.m., 2nd hour of shift, aged 49, Miner, fall of ore from face and side of working; the place was closely timbered, and was only about 6 feet high; no official inspection had been made during that shift, but deceased and his mate had made a careful examination by sounding, &c., and they considered the place perfectly safe; the fall disclosed a slippery parting which was not previously visible |
