Pells, Robert, 11 Jan 1914, aged 22, Horsekeeper, Deceased had attended to his horses and presumably was about to signal himself out of the pit, being duly authorised to do so. He put his head through the protecting gate, probably to see where the cage was, when the cage descended and caught his head and killed him.

Smith, Ernest Sizer, 1920, [approximate date]

      

Stapylton, James, 20 Oct 1903, aged 18, Screen Engineman, Deceased was in charge of the engine for working the cleaning belts. While the engine was running he reached forward near bevel gearing to screw up a grease lubricator, and was dragged into the bevel wheels and instantly killed. A notice near his engine forbidding the oiling of the machinery in motion appears to have been frequently disregarded by him.

      

Stead, Frederick Robtert, 31 Jul 1912, (accident: 24 Jul 1912), aged 44, Hewer, whilst lifting a tub on the way he strained himself, but worked the shift out and also the two following shifts; he died on the 31st July, 1912, from shock due to strained abdomen
