Gallagher, Owen, 09 Oct 1908, aged 23, Hewer, fall of ramble at the working face

      

Goodfellow, Richard, 13 Jun 1904, (accident: 30 Jul 1903), aged 44, Deputy, On the 30th July, 1903, deceased, while pushing a timber tram slipped and hurt himself; he worked the next two shifts, and then was more or less confined to bed for four months, and was under the doctor's care. A bone setter was also called in. He was eventually able to get up and move about on crutches. About a fortnight before his death he began to take fits. An inquest was held after a post-mortem examination and medical evidence was given that although deceased suffered from hip disease of old standing the cause of death was inflammation of the kidneys unconnected with the hip disease. The Jury found death was due to disease of the kidneys aggravated by the accident

Hamilton, William, 12 Jan 1900, aged 32, Hewer, Deceased was engaged in getting down the coal after a shot had been fired, when a fall of ramble took place. [Inspection made & inquest attended]

Henderson, Edward, 24 Apr 1900, aged 19, Putter & Hewer, Another putter and deceased were taking off some side coal in a place which was holed into another working, when a stone fell from a slip. The deputy had examined the place about an hour prior to the accident, but did not consider it dangerous. [Inspection made & inquest attended]

Taylor, George, 20 Jan 1903, (accident: 12 Jan 1903), aged 14, Driver, There was some evidence that deceased received a slight injury to his head by tubs in the pit on the 12th January, but medical evidence, after a post mortem examination, was given at the inquest attributed death to acute meningitis arising while deceased was suffering from an influenza cold and was not due to any accident, and so the jury found [fatality reported during the year but not classified as a colliery accident]
