Names of those killed at this colliery

Please note that this collection of names is by no means complete!

Gardner, James, 01 Aug 1895, 8:40 a.m., 2nd hour of shift, aged 61, Surface Overman, he was walking along the tramway and stood aside to allow a train of five waggons to pass; the driver and stoker both saw him when passing, in quite a safe position; yet despite this, he appears to have fallen between the wheels of the last waggon; he had previously complained of a feeling of dizziness when the engine passed near him, and the presumption is, that owing to this cause, he lost his balance; there was sufficient room for clearance at the point where he was standing

Goldie, Joseph, 19 Jun 1899, aged 59, Miner, He was boring a pop-hole in ore shaken by a previous shot, when a portion of the ore suddenly fell and caught him [Inspection made & inquest attended]
