Description

Lythe is a village, in a parish of its name, in the eastern extremity of Cleveland, North Riding, nearly 4 miles W.N.W. of Whitby. The village is seated upon an eminence, to the south of which is Mulgrave castle, the seat of Right Hon. the Earl of Mulgrave ; the marine view from hence is peculiarly grand. The Earl of Mulgrave is the impropriator of the great tythes, and owner of extensive alum works in the vicinity.
