1845 - Commenced to sink North Pit, Kepier Grange, in January, and shaft was put down to the Hutton Seam.

Armstrong, John, 18 Mar 1870, Driver, crushed by tubs

      

Barrass, Thomas, 04 Apr 1873, killed by a fall of stone

      

Brown, James, 13 May 1864, aged 33, Fireman, killed by the explosion of a boiler [More information ...]

     

Cairns, James, 24 Apr 1857, Brakesman, some workmen were replacing a broken engine spear, after completing the job, they slackened the crab rope which had supported the full weight of the spear. This had the effect of throwing the weight onto the engine beam, which was unsupported. The beam then descended, and a half ton iron rod connecting the pumping apparatus was thrown on the brakesman, James Cairns, killing him instantly

     

Carr, Thomas, 27 May 1855, aged 13, Driver, while driving a horse attached to a laden set of tubs he received a severe crush injury to his right hand when the front tub was upset. He was taken home and surgeon Mr. Croudace attended. On 25 May, CarrÆs fingers were amputated, then tetanus set in and he died on the 27th

     

Foster, George, 24 Dec 1918, aged 24, Banksman, something was reported to have gone wrong with one of the tubs, and while he was trying to put it right he accidentally fell down the shaft and was killed instantly

Johnson, Francis, 10 Mar 1864, aged 13, Driver, crushed by tubs

      

McReag, William, 30 Apr 1914, aged 49, Onsetter, Deceased neglected to close the fencing gate at the low main inset whilst the cage was away. Forgetting this, he ran a full tub into the shaft and fell after it, a distance of 13 fathoms, sustaining fatal injuries.

      

Miller, John, 13 May 1864, aged 10, [Not Employed], killed by the explosion of a boiler [More information ...]

      

Milton, Thomas Stodart, 15 Nov 1858, aged 15, Fireman, crushed by apparatus sheave while oiling it

      

Purdy, David, 10 Mar 1862, aged 67, Hewer, fall of stone in a broken jud

      

Stevenson, Richard, 23 Mar 1861, aged 35, Hewer, killed by a fall of stone

     

Turner, John, 24 Aug 1915, (accident: 23 Aug 1915), aged 30, Hewer, On 23rd August he was admitted to Durham County Hospital suffering from compound fractures of both bones in his leg, and died the following day from shock. He had been taking down top stone to make height for the canch when a fall of stone occurred.
