 Collieries Collieries

Select the initial letter of the colliery required from the menu above, details of the information we have on file for collieries starting with that letter will be displayed.

Other sub-sections available within this category are :—

  • Shafts — details of the geological strata encountered whilst sinking shafts and a pictorial representation of the shaft.

  • List of Mines — a number of the annual list of mines for the Northern area - this includes mines for which we do not (yet) have a specific colliery page.

  • Managers — provides a name index of the Agents, Managers, Under Managers and NCB Staff up to 1957. This section only provides an indication of the Management of the Colliery as it is taken from a limited subset of the available data.

  • Abandoned Mines — shows the seams abandoned mainly during the period 1929-1938, there are also links on the main colliery page for details of any abandoned seams for that specific colliery.

Collecting and updating this information is an ongoing exercise - any help or information would be greatly welcomed.
