Atkinson, John, 26 Jul 1900, aged 54, Labourer, The deceased was getting on to a waggon in order to discharge crown-trees, when he suddenly fell backwards, and his head striking the rail, dislocated his spine. [Inspection made & inquest attended]

      

Blackburn, Luke, 10 Nov 1891, Shifter, was taken suddenly ill after commencing work and died a fortnight after from heart disease

Geggie, Robert, 03 Apr 1900, aged 51, Horsekeeper, The deceased was about to enter the cage at the yard seam, when owing to a mistake in the signal the cage was suddenly lowered and he fell on to the cage top. [Inspection made & inquest attended]

Long, Norman, 20 Oct 1965, crushed to death by a coal cutting machine which moved forward along a chain

      

Morrell, Edward D., 19 May 1892, 12:20 p.m., 8th hour of shift, aged 13, Coupler, He was running alongside the rope, with his hand on it, and was drawn on to the drum and killed [Inspection made & inquest attended]

Newall, Abraham, 13 Jul 1871, aged 51, Hewer, body crushed by being knocked down and run over by coal tubs (lived a few minutes), (Inquest: 14 Jul 1871)

     

Rhodes, John, 08 May 1866, aged 13, killed while driving from the shaft, Buried: Churchyard of St. Mary the Virgin, Horton

      

Robinson, John Forest, 15 Jul 1901, aged 27, Coal Filler, He was cleaning up the last of his coals when a large stone fell from slips in the roof. There was one prop under the stone and probably the deceased was about to set more timber [Inspection made & inquest attended]

      

Robson, Archibald, 26 Oct 1912, aged 64, Watcher and Waiter on, whilst getting into the cage at the surface, the cage was lowered in response to a signal from below ground; the winding engineman was unaware a man was going to descend

      

Sheppard, William, 09 Nov 1897, (accident: 28 Oct 1897), aged 64, Shifter, He was ridding a shot when his fingers were caught by a stone on the tub top. Blood poisoning set in, and he died on November 9th [Inquest attended]

      

Soulsby, John George, 25 Mar 1909, aged 34, Colliery Shunter, died suddenly from syncope and not from any violence [Inquest: 27 Mar 1909]

      

Thompson, John, 22 Feb 1901, aged 46, Stoneman, Deceased and two others were fixing a baulk into position when a thin layer of stone fell and crushed him on the rails, causing internal injuries. The place had been previously examined by an official [Inquest attended]

      

Turner, Thomas, 29 Dec 1892, (accident: 12 Sep 1892, 2:30 a.m., 1st hour of shift), aged 34, Deputy, In going his round he struck his head against the roof, causing a slight wound. He followed his occupation till the 8th November without informing any of his superiors of the accident, when he had to cease work, and on the 29th December died from an abscess in the head, the result of the injury [Inquest attended]

      

Wilkinson, John, 25 Jul 1871, aged 44, Deputy, killed by a fall of stone, Buried: Churchyard of St. Mary the Virgin, Horton
