Howell, Robert, 09 Mar 1895, 8:30 a.m., 3rd hour of shift, aged 26, Miner, this place was known to be nearly holed through into old workings, and was timbered close up to the fire-head; the intervening crust of solid ore turned out to be thinner than was expected, and the fore-head and roof suddenly collapsed, burying deceased among the debris; no official inspection of the place had been made on that day

Kennedy, William, 27 Dec 1879, aged 42, Buried: Preston Quarter Cemetery

      

Vodden, Charles, 20 Jan 1894, 1:00 p.m., 7th hour of shift, aged 58, Miner, An accident of a very simple character. He was seated on a plank, boring, with his feet resting on loose ore. He stood up for some purpose, and the plank was displaced. On attempting to sit down again he fell backwards, and rolled about 6 feet down a bank of ore. He died the following day [Inspection made & inquest attended]
