Names of those killed at this colliery

Please note that this collection of names is by no means complete!

Armstrong, John Edward, 06 Jul 1951, aged 55, he was found lying unconscious about a yard from the haulage rope which had been pulling tubs up the drift, it was thought that the socket at the front of the first tub had caught under the flat sheet, dragging it from its bed, and caused it to jam against a roller. One of the guiding drums was dislodged, and one of the stands holding the drums had been thrown 104 feet away. Armstrong has either been hit by the rope or one of the drums. He died in Bishop auckland General Hospital
