Names of those killed at this colliery
Please note that this collection of names is by no means complete!
| | | | | | | Blakey, William, 16 Oct 1897, aged 18, Breaker, He was found dead on the flat sheets of a small self-acting staple, but it is impossible to say how the accident happened. The machinery was in good order, with the exception of the drum, one of the cleadings of which had become disarranged and caught against the bolt of the brake strap. This may have been due to the cage running amain, as was stated by one of the witnesses. Probably, the lad was struck on the head by the brake handle, owing to the cleading and bolt coming into contact [Inspection made & inquest attended] |
