Doyle, Thomas, 05 May 1883, aged 21, Hewer, found dead at the bottom of the pit, Buried: B.V.M. Queen of Martyrs Church, Newhouse, Esh Winning [More information ...]

     

Simpson, Arthur, 27 Nov 1943, (accident: 23 Nov 1943), aged 43, Deputy, he climbed up an iron ladder, propped against and electric pole, to adjust the blackout shade on a light outside the fan engine house; he slipped and fell fracturing his right hip; he underwent an operation on 26 Nov at Durham County Hospital and it was discovered he had paralysis of the bowels, he died in hospital the next day; death was due to heart failure, due to paralysis of the bowels and broncho-pneumonia resulting from the fracture of the hip
