Earl, Richard, 01 Sep 1902, aged 21, Miner's Labourer, a short time after the other workmen had left the mine, Earl descended alone with stores, which he intended to leave at a convenient place near the shaft and return immediately ; his body was subsequently found in the sump, and it was clear he had fallen from the "eye" or inset at which he had alighted ; the shaft was fenced at the "eye," but the fence was defective
