Names of those killed at this colliery

Please note that this collection of names is by no means complete!

Dunn, Patrick, 24 Dec 1897, aged 19, Labourer, In tipping a bogie it fell over into the hurry, and deceased fell with it a distance of only three feet. He complained of a pain in his side, but remained in the working place two hours after the accident. He subsequently walked home alone, a distance of two miles; refusing the offer of his uncle — with whom he worked — to accompany him. The accident was not reported to the officials until two or three hours after its occurrence. He died on the following day from acute peritonitis; aggravated, according to the medical evidence, by the exertion of walking home [Inspection made & inquest attended]

Nixon, William, 10 Dec 1897, (accident: 12 Nov 1897), aged 66, Ore Picker, He was pinching back a waggon on a slight gradient when the bar slipped, and he fell with the bar across his leg ; the waggon at the same time moving forward caught the other end of the bar, thereby pinning deceased to the ground. He died on the 10th December [Inspection made & inquest attended]
