Brown, Thomas, 13 Jul 1921, aged 47, Shifter, killed in a fall of stone; compensation of £300 was awarded

Smith, Frederick Edmund, 06 Aug 1931, aged 28, Fore Overman, he was pinned beneath a fall of stone in the Beaumont seam, 2½ miles from the shaft. Rescue operations continued for 14 hours, but it proved impossible to dislodge a large stone which held Smith and his pony. The doctor managed to reach him and gave him an injection of morphia, but he died before he could be removed. 'It was thought the pony, which was coming off its shift, had become wedged between the low roof and the ground, and as it attempted to free itself it scrubbed the roof and brought down stone.' Smith had obtained his surveyor's certificate at Bedlington Colliery and later worked at Kibblesworth and Follonsby, where he was working his time to qualify for the manager's certificate

     

Smyth, Clark, 30 Jun 1910, aged 31, Sinker, a fatal accident occurred at the new Follonsby pit at Wardley when one of the sinkers, Clark Smith, who was residing at Pelaw, was caught in a fall of stone; three others were seriously injured, Buried: St. Mary's Churchyard/Cemetery, Heworth

      

Weallans, James, 11 Nov 1926, (accident: 08 Jan 1915), aged 35, Labourer, crushed
