Bell, Mark, 20 Nov 1893, 2:45 p.m., 6th hour of shift, aged 23, Hewer, Deceased was taking off coal at the side of the way to make width for a landing, and in doing so was under an overhanging stone, which fell on to him. This stone ought to have been taken down before commencing work [Inspection made & inquest attended]

Dunbar, John, 24 Jan 1905, aged 46, Hewer, Deceased was hewing alone in a stenton 6 yards wide in the Brockwell seam; when his marrow came to take his place at 9.30 a.m. he found a large stone had fallen from the roof close to the face upon deceased. The stone was 12 feet long across the face, and 5½ feet wide and 1 foot thick, and in its fall had displaced five props. It was released by a slip next the face and by a keen parting above. The deputy had been in the place at 6.20 a.m. and had set two props and left the place, in his judgment, safe. There was a good supply of loose timber. The Local Inspectors reported, "it is our opinion it was unforeseen and accidental"

Nicholson, Thomas, 01 Oct 1913, aged 56, Hewer, deceased and another man were hewing in a bord 5½ yards wide; the coal is 2 feet 2 inches thick with a top canch of 1 foot 6 inches taken near the middle of the place; the face of the canch was within 2 feet 6 inches of the coal face; as deceased was scalloping the coal off, a stone 3 feet square and 10 inches thick came away from the front of the canch at two well marked slips and a feathery edge, he having just uncovered one slip parallel with the face; the slips would not be apparent before the stone fell; it is stated that one prop was canted out by the stone
