Description

Chaloner Mine is three miles distant from Eston, and the ironstone is brought in train loads, or sets of 21 tubs, over the surface in three stages, the three haulages, placed a mile apart, being of the double-drum type and each driven by a 300-h.p. motor.

The stone from Chaloner mine is passed over a screen at Eston to separate the fines, which are not calcined. Separation is effected with a Ross roller screen which is fitted with a Ross system of chain feed. This has been found to be the simplest method of handling the material, which varies from "fines" to lumps, weighing 50 lbs. or more, in one operation.
