Barwise, Edward, 21 Apr 1885, aged 15, Driver, piece of stone fell upon him from side of trailing way

      

Cameron, John, 06 Oct 1875, aged 38, Miner, fell from scaffold on the surface

      

Daley, Joseph, 01 Mar 1911, aged 25, Hewer, killed by a fall of roof

      

Dixon, Joseph Daniel, 10 Sep 1903, (accident: 14 Feb 1903), aged 22, Hewer, Fall of black stone which forms the roof of the Metal Band. Deceased was engaged on the extraction of a pillar of coal, or, as it is termed in Cumberland a "robbery" working. The place was examined by officials in accordance with the Act, and there was loose timber near, but there appeared to be some delay in making use of it.

      

Fisher, Rodger, 16 Jan 1912, aged 69, Engineman, a single-cylinder compressed-air haulage engine being on the centre, deceased got through the fence, and in turning the flywheel was swung round on it, he having the air-pressure on at the time

      

Gates, Joseph, 16 Jun 1894, 9:45 a.m., 2nd hour of shift, Contractor, Deceased, who was road repairing with other men, went to work in another part of the same roadway, and was afterwards found under a fall of stone. What caused the fall is not known [Inspection made & inquest attended]

      

Gunson, William T., 13 Dec 1913, (accident: 04 Dec 1913), aged 41, Hewer, deceased was throwing a piece of stone into the pack when it cut his finger; septic poisoning set in, from which he died on 13th December

      

Hans, John, 27 Sep 1882, aged 28, Hewer, explosion of firedamp

      

High, Mary, 02 Nov 1888, aged 34, Coal Cleaner, caught by revolving shaft driving screen belt

      

Jackson, William, 17 Apr 1897, aged 52, Miner, He was riding on a clutch bogie with some other men, contrary to orders, when he lost his hold and fell under the set. It seemed entirely due to the man's own fault [Inquest attended]

      

Kelly, Thomas, 03 Sep 1912, aged 24, Shifter, whilst stowing the debris from a shot in the bottom of a cross heading, part of the post roof came away from two weight breaks; longwall working

Martin, Lowrie, 06 Aug 1911, (accident: 26 Jul 1911), aged 17, Pony Driver, lifting a tub

      

McCarthy, Simon Francis, 06 Apr 1911, aged 36, Labourer, fell off girder

      

McKitten, Daniel, 14 Sep 1888, aged 26, Hewer, the jud of coal, which he was making, fell on him

      

Owens, Thomas, 13 Mar 1878, aged 19, Hewer, killed by a fall of stone

      

Pardham, Walter, 07 Aug 1905, aged 20, Hewer, Deceased who was in front and his mate, another young man of 19, who was behind, were lowering a full tub, weighing in all about 14 cwt., down a long wall gateway from the face dipping 1 in 6½ ; they had gone about 35 yards when deceased's head came in contact with a projection in the somewhat irregular roof and he was fatally injured, dying in a few minutes after he was released. They were probably hurrying to be before other men for an empty tub, and just before he was caught deceased had asked his mate to come faster

      

Parkhouse, Samuel, 1898, Engineman, he was found dead on the floor of his engine house, evidently from heart disease

Sanderson, Richard, 17 Jul 1891, Screener, whilst engaged at his work he burst a blood vessel and died within several minutes

      

Scott, Andrew, 08 Nov 1899, aged 68, Labourer, The deceased was employed in tipping stones over a refuse heap, a portion of which suddenly subsided, carrying him away into the river Derwent. The river was in flood and had undermined the heap. The body was not recovered until nineteen days afterwards [Inspection made & inquest attended] [More information ...]

      

Smith, Isaac, 04 Aug 1914, aged 26, Deputy, While the pit was off work, Smith and Wright were engaged doing repairs in a gateroad and Wilkinson was attending to an electrically driven pump. The district had not been inspected for at least 3 days, and as the ventilating fan had been standing for 12 hours during this period, a large accumulation of firedamp occurred. By some means the gas became ignited and there was a severe explosion, which killed the three men and severely injured a fourth man who was temporarily assisting Wilkinson. Stephenson, Thomas, 22 Mar 1909, aged 33, Stoneman, fall of roof stone while enlarging air way

      

Wilkinson, John, 04 Aug 1914, aged 62, Pumpman, While the pit was off work, Smith and Wright were engaged doing repairs in a gateroad and Wilkinson was attending to an electrically driven pump. The district had not been inspected for at least 3 days, and as the ventilating fan had been standing for 12 hours during this period, a large accumulation of firedamp occurred. By some means the gas became ignited and there was a severe explosion, which killed the three men and severely injured a fourth man who was temporarily assisting Wilkinson. Wilson, John Barnes, 12 Dec 1901, aged 46, Shiftman, The deceased and another man were renewing some uprights in connection with the haulage tightening arrangements when he was caught by the rope, and carried on to the wheel [Inspection made & inquest attended]

      

Wright, James, 04 Aug 1914, aged 23, Examiner, While the pit was off work, Smith and Wright were engaged doing repairs in a gateroad and Wilkinson was attending to an electrically driven pump. The district had not been inspected for at least 3 days, and as the ventilating fan had been standing for 12 hours during this period, a large accumulation of firedamp occurred.
