Current Status - The drift has now been filled and the entrance blocked - although the original stone entrance (1842) remains visible. The coal handling area has been cleared along with the outlying parts of the site. The workshop buildings remain and it seems as if the former office building is being converted for residential use.

Heslop, James, 18 Nov 1890, 10:30 a.m., 4th hour of shift, aged 15, Driver, fell off his seat into the front of tubs and crushed

     

Johnson, James, 05 Jul 1884, aged 17, Putter, crushed by tub, his brother (William) and father (Robert) were both killed at the same colliery in 1896 and 1899 respectively, Buried: St. Cuthbert's Churchyard, Greenhead

     

Johnson, Robert, 18 Dec 1899, aged 53, Deputy, The deceased had nearly finished drawing the timber out of a broken jud when a heavy fall of roof occurred. The stone broke off at a strongly marked jack close to the breaking off timber and canted several props out [Inspection made & inquest attended]. Two sons (James & William) were killed at the same colliery in 1884 and 1896 respectively, Buried: St. Cuthbert's Churchyard, Greenhead

      

Johnson, Robert, 1900, [approximate date]

     

Johnson, William, 25 Mar 1896, aged 22, Putter, He was caught by a fall of stone when travelling on the waggon way. The place was considered to be quite safe [Inspection made & inquest attended] His brother (James) and father (Robert) were both killed at the same colliery in 1884 and 1899 respectively, Buried: St. Cuthbert's Churchyard, Greenhead

      

Latimer, William, 30 Apr 1888, aged 34, Hewer, killed by a fall of roof

      

Reay, Thomas, 28 Aug 1903, aged 53, Farmer, While filling his cart with coal from a wagon at the colliery he fell back and expired. He suffered from heart disease. No inquest was held.

     

Ross, William John, 30 Jan 1900, aged 24, Screener, The deceased was moving a full waggon from under the screens with the aid of a horse, when it is supposed he was crushed between the moving waggon and a stationary one. [Inspection made & inquest attended], Buried: St. Cuthbert's Churchyard, Greenhead

      

Ruddick, Robert, 14 Jun 1901, Deputy, died suddenly from natural causes while travelling outbye
