Cameron, William Gill, 27 Aug 1904, aged 20, Blacksmith, Deceased was doing some work at a coal washer and had frequently to pass over the sidings at the pit between it and the shops. He passed between 15 empty 3-ton wood-buffered wagons and 10 others of the same type, separated by an interval of 4 feet. A locomotive owned by the Maryport & Carlisle Railway Co. came forward pushing 40 wagons, and, in obedience to signals and after whistling, the driver closed up gently with the 10 wagons and they moved forward against the 15 and deceased was caught

Graham, Peter Robert, 02 Aug 1898, aged 14, Coupler, His duty was to make up the set of empty tubs at the shaft bottom, prior to its being driven away, and after he had on this occasion coupled the last two together and given the driver the usual signal. he attempted to pass between the last two tubs for some purpose or other, and slipping, was crushed against a wooden upright. There was no necessity for him to cross between the tubs [Inspection made & inquest attended]

Holden, John, 09 Oct 1914, aged 48, Shotfirer, Deceased was drawing timber from the goaf, and after failing to draw a prop with a pout he took a hammer, and the prop came out suddenly causing a fall of following stone which buried him.

      

Jackson, Jonathan, 24 Aug 1896, aged 41, Deputy, A hewer not being satisfied with the roof of his place, sought the deceased, who, after examining it, commenced to arrange some props. In doing so he cut a small piece of side stone away, when a heavy stone fell on him from slippery partings running all round [Inspection made & inquest attended]

Monkhouse, Alfred, 09 Apr 1912, (accident: 27 Dec 1911), aged 26, Miner, he was hewing in a broken lift 5 yards wide when a triangular piece of stone fell from a slip in the roof upon him breaking his back; no timber was displaced; he died April 9, 1912

      

Oglanby, Isaac Armstrong, 14 Dec 1908, aged 24, Pumpman, a chain supporting a column of steam pipes broke and a link of it fell and struck deceased who was working on a cradle in the shaft

Richardson, Thomas, 27 Jan 1893, 11:00 p.m., 3rd hour of shift, aged 55, Shifter, It appears that the deceased was engaged cleaning out the sump at the bottom of the shaft, and from some misunderstanding of the signals the engineman lowered the cage on to him, causing his death [Inspection made & inquest attended]

      

Rogan, Bernard, 23 Feb 1900, aged 24, Hewer, While working alone in a broken working, a heavy fall of metal took place between a slip and the coal face. The working was fairly well timbered, but the roof was very much broken. Some props were canted out by the fall. There was plenty of suitable timber five yards away, but it had not been considered necessary to set more. [Inspection made & inquest attended]

      

Routledge, James, 12 Jun 1897, aged 65, Hewer, This accident occurred by a fall of coal and following band coming on to him. He had evidently just started to kirve when the coal, which was overhanging a little, came away from a "slip." There was plenty of timber in the place had he chosen to set a sprag [Inspection made & inquest attended]

Wilson, Joseph, 18 Oct 1904, (accident: 03 Oct 1904), aged 18, Trailer, Deceased complained on the evening of October 3, when he went home from the pit, of pain in his left foot, which he ascribed to a bit of coal having got into his clog. He worked the next day, still complaining of pain, and afterwards was off work till his death, which was due to blood poisoning, which medical evidence at the inquest ascribed to injury to the top of the left instep. The Jury found death was due to "accidental injury to foot."
