On the day of the accident he was crushed between the first and second tubs of a set and dragged some distance up the drift. His spine was crushed and fractured, he also had internal injuries.

Maughan, Thomas, 01 Oct 1906, (accident: 28 Sep 1906), aged 63, Stoneman [More information ...]

Race, William, 30 May 1906, aged 32, deputy, When engaged drawing timber a heavy fall of roof occurred, killing him on the spot. An appliance for drawing timber was at hand, but was not used., Buried: West Auckland Cemetery

White, George, 18 Mar 1910, aged 57, Hewer, He had holed a split wall into an old upstanding bord room, in a seam rising 14 inches per yard. The seam was 6 feet thick, and the bottom section 2½ feet in thickness, had been removed the full width of the place — 3 yards. He had set a jud prop under the middle of the hanging coal, and had drilled and charged a hole to shoot down the top section, but had not withdrawn the pricker, when all the coal with the exception of about 8 inches near to the roof canted out the jud prop and fell on to him. He died on the way home

Wilkinson, Stephen, 02 Dec 1910, aged 18, Incline Lad, Due to a putter neglecting to place a loose chock across the top of a short dilly bank dipping 10 inches per yard, a full tub which he had left on a flat 4 yards from the chock got amain and collided with a full tub at the dilly bottom 13 yards away, causing the latter to run amain down the next dilly. This tub on reaching the bottom crashed into a full tub attached to the rope and then rebounded across into the level and crushed the deceased against a prop. There was apparently considerable laxity in the use of the chocks, which should have been put across the road as soon as every empty tub reached the bank head, and if this had been done the accident would not have occurred
