Raffle, James Wardlaw, 01 Jul 1951, killed when a prop sprung and hit him on head, cause of death: severe internal brain damage.

      

Robson, John, 08 Dec 1900, aged 26, Hewer, The deceased had charged a shot hole in the coal with ordinary gunpowder and stemmed it, after which the deputy gave him a piece of touch paper lighted by means of a heated wire. The deputy then left the deceased, who was found lying 8 feet from the shot hole, and had been killed by the coals projected by the shot. Probably he had nipped off the end of the squib too close. The deputy should have fired the shot himself. [Inquest attended]

Waggott, Christopher, 17 Jan 1914, (accident: 15 Jan 1914), aged 24, Hewer, The deputy had 2 shots to fire in deceased's working place, which was 8 feet wide. After firing the first shot and coupling up the second, deceased remembered that he had left his explosive canister in the face, and obtained permission to get it. Whilst deceased was away a hewer from an adjoining place came out for his bait, and sat near the deputy, who took it for granted that this man was deceased, but did not identify him at the time. He fired the shot, which caused injuries to deceased, which terminated fatally two days later.
