In 1841 Parliament set up a Commission to examine the extent and conditions regarding the employment of Children in the work place. We have extracted the parts of the report published in 1842 that cover the mining industry in the area that we cover. In the majority of cases we have also reproduced the evidence given to the representatives of the Commission.

  • Terms of Reference for the Commission.

  • Evidence collected in the Collieries of Northumberland and Northern Durham.

  • Evidence collected in the Collieries of Cumberland.

  • Name Index of those who have evidence or were mentioned in the published evidence.
