Little Progress in Search for Miners

Rescue teams worked in relays throughout Tuesday night in attempts to find the four miners trapped by a fall of stone at Weetslade colliery, Northumberland, on Monday.

A statement issued yesterday by Mr. R. D. Glass, production director of the Northern (Northumberland and Cumberland) division of the National Coal Board, said that little progress had been made in the past 24 hours in the recovery of the affected district, because of the need to restore pumping to keep under control the make of water in the district. Work was still going on and recovery work would continue as soon as circumstances permitted.

The Labour Party conference in Scarborough agreed yesterday to send a message of sympathy to the relatives of the missing men.
