The Secretary for Mines has directed Mr. Henry Walker, Chief Inspector of Mines, to hold a formal investigation into the causes and circumstances of the explosion which occurred on December 13, 1927, and February 12, 1928, in the Haig Pit of the
Whitehaven Colliery, Whitehaven, Cumberland, whereby 17 persons lost their lives. The time and place of the formal investigation will be announced later.
