At the half-yearly meeting of Seaham Harbour Dock Company yesterday, Mr. S. J. Ditchfield (the chairman), in moving the adoption of the report, said it was the best half-year they had had. Steady progress had been made ever since the formation of
the company, and the future was promising. If Easington Colliery had not met with so many difficulties, shipments would have been greater than at present. The new colliery at Dawdon might be expected to produce 4,000 or 5,000 tons per day when in full
swing, and the shipments would far exceed the estimate set out in the prospectus.
Mr. J. B. Scott, in seconding, said the company had never paid 5 per cent. before.
Mr. W. J. Young, in moving the re-election of Messrs. S. J. Ditchfield and J. S. Barwick, retiring directors, hoped that in future developments the company would avoid bringing the coal trains into the centre of the town.
The motion was carried.
An extraordinary meeting which followed gave sanction to the creation and issue of additional capital for the purpose of extending the staithes.
