The Brancepeth Colliery Explosion

The coroner's inquiry into the Brancepeth colliery explosion concluded at Willington, Durham, yesterday, when the jury returned the following verdict :— "We find that a shot was fired, but by whom we know not, and the shot ignited the coal dust and caused an explosion in the cross cut-way culminating in the deaths of the 20 men and boys accidentally." No recommendation was made.
